In order to make a request for Crown lands for federal government use in the province, you will need to submit the application as well as the documentation listed below.

The following should be included with your application:

  • A site plan (PDF preferred) that includes:
    • An accurate scale
    • Dimensions of overall lot size
    • Length and width of any proposed access roads
    • Dimensions of individual lots (if applicable)
    • Dimensions of all buildings
    • Distance from buildings to the boundary of land
  • Any existing land ownership documentation, such as:
    • Copy of current land title
    • Bill of sale
    • Deed of conveyance
  • Survey

Apply for Crown Lands

In order to apply for Crown lands for economic development for municipal use, you will need to submit the Application for Crown Lands as well as the documentation listed below. Before you apply, please note that municipalities will require consent of Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs, under section 201 of the Municipalities Act.

  • Submit a site plan that includes:
    • an accurate scale
    • dimensions of overall lot size
    • length and width of any proposed access roads
    • dimensions of individual lots (if applicable)
    • dimensions of all buildings
    • distance from buildings to the boundary of land
    • dimensions of a parking area
    • dimensions of washroom(s)/laundry facilities (if applicable)
    • dimensions of septic field(s) or dumping station(s)
  • Survey (when requested)
  • Septic, if applicable and requested
  • Other important information to know when preparing to apply:
    • Clearly identify the exact form of title that is being requested at the time of application from the following;
      • Lease-to-own for a set term (10 years maximum), with varying annual payments to be negotiated (i.e. 4 year term at 25 per cent of market value per year; 5 year term at 0% in first year and 25 per cent of market value in the subsequent four years; 10 year term at 10 per cent of market value per year);
      • Lease-to-own for a set term (10 years maximum), with 50 per cent of the market value required up-front, and 50 per cent of the market value required when the municipality starts to realize the revenue from the sale of parcels of land, or when the term of the lease expires; or
      • Lease-to-own for a set term (10 years maximum), with payments deferred on the lease/grant until the municipality starts to realize the revenue from the sale of parcels of land, or until the term of the lease expires. The municipality would have to pay for the land prior to selling the parcel of land to another party for economic development purposes.

Apply for Crown Lands

Applications for Crown lands within the Wind Energy Land Reserve area are limited only to those that are required on an urgent basis and for the public good at this time.  Information regarding the Call for Bids for Wind Development Projects can be found on the Department of Industry, Energy and Technology’s website.
