The Quarry Resources Atlas is the source for all mapping information maintained by the Quarries Section of the Mineral Lands Division. This Atlas is currently in development and additional reference information will be added over the coming weeks and months. This mapping tool currently shows the following information:

• • all issued quarry permits and quarry leases in Newfoundland and Labrador, and their location,
  • recently expired quarry permits and leases (expired in the last two months),
  • proposed quarry sites currently under review,
  • the permittee or lessee name,
  • approval type (e.g., permit or lease), and
  • size of the approved size of the quarry.

The Geoscience Atlas is a source of geological data maintained by the Geological Survey of Newfoundland and Labrador including quarry locations (point data) and aggregate resource potential information. A guide for using the Newfoundland and Labrador Geoscience Atlas for quarry application is available here.

The Land Use Atlas is maintained by the Crown Lands Division of the Deparmtent of Fisheries, Agriculture and Lands. Regardless of whether a quarry is on Crown or private land there are other land uses such as municipal zoning, environmental protection areas, protected roads, forestry activities etc., that must be considered before a permit / lease is issued and for which additional approvals may be required. Many, but not all land use considerations are detailed on the Land Use Atlas.
