- The Mineral Lands Division maintains a listing of service providers that offer fees for service assistance with various quarry-related needs such as applications, mapping, legal surveys, aggregate resource assessments, development, rehabilitation and closure plans, environmental assessment registration documents, stake-holder engagement, etc.

Quarry Rehabilitation & Closure
- Quarry permits and leases must be rehabilitated in accordance with the terms and conditions of the permit/lease in accordance with the Quarry Materials Act.
- Rehabilitation has multiple goals including:
- Restore the quarry site to a physically and chemically stable, and safe condition to protect public health and safety.
- To decommission the quarry site to a land use similar to its original use or another to a use that is compatible with neighboring land uses.
- Rehabilitation can take multiple forms, for example:
- Progressive rehabilitation requires you to rehabilitate the areas of your site that are no longer needed while you are extracting quarry resources in other areas of your site, or while you retain the permit, but you aren’t actively operating the site.
- Final rehabilitation must be completed for any site that will no longer be used (i.e., its quarry resources have been exhausted or are limited) or is no longer required by the permittee and cancelled.
- The standard terms and conditions of all quarry permits and leases outline comprehensive rehabilitation requirements (Schedule B, Section E), all of which are required for final rehabilitation.
- Common forms of rehabilitation include:
- Grading and Fill of Excavated Areas
- Rock faces sloped to a 2:1 gradient
- Unconsolidated aggregate (sand / gravel) faces sloped to 3:1 gradient
- Settling ponds and water sumps backfilled
- All material used for sloping or fill must be sourced from the quarry operation itself or from existing stockpiles of aggregate or overburden. Topsoil and grubbing material must be stockpiled separately to be used for revegetation.
- Importing of topsoil, overburden or other fill material is allowed but must be pre-approved by the Department.
- Revegetation and Regeneration of Quarry Site
- Topsoil and grubbing material excavated from the quarry operation must be stockpiled separately from overburden and aggregate product and remain on site for final rehabilitation and closure.
- Topsoil and grubbing material are to be spread over entire site and select slopes as directed.
- Hydroseeding or planting may be required when there is not enough topsoil or grubbing to cover the site or to mitigate impacts on visibility or viewscape.
- Surface Water and Drainage
- There shall be no areas of accumulated or ponded water in the quarry (e.g., settling ponds, ponded water in low-lying areas).
- Prior to abandoning the site, drainage measures must be implemented to prevent future accumulation of water once the site is closed.
- You must notify the Department of any draining ditches, culverts, check damns remaining after closure of the site.
- Install sediment control devices to prevent sediment infiltration of natural water bodies.
- Equipment and Buildings
- All equipment such as concrete batch plants, asphalt plants, and weigh scales must be temporary in construction. No permanent equipment can be installed unless approved by the Department.
- Outbuildings used for office space or storage must be temporary in construction. No permanent outbuildings are permitted to be constructed unless approved by the Department.
- All equipment, buildings and structures must be removed from site prior to submitting a request to close the quarry.
- Clean and Orderly Site
- Remove all scrap equipment and garbage from the site.
- Remove all imported material including waste asphalt or concrete from the site.
- Remove all equipment from the site including heavy equipment, screeners, culverts, scrap steel, etc.
- Entrances and Exits must be decommissioned
- Grading and Fill of Excavated Areas
