Trade Policy

The Trade Policy Division represents the province’s interests in interprovincial and international trade agreements. This includes the negotiation, ratification, and implementation of each agreement. The division is also responsible for providing trade analysis and advice relating to obligations under relevant domestic and international agreements.

Trade Policy officials are available to assist residents and companies who encounter barriers to trade when dealing with other provinces and territories, or foreign governments. Most trade agreements have some form of dispute resolution mechanism or formal committee structure that can be utilized to highlight or help resolve trade disputes.

For information related to domestic trade, please see the following link to the Canadian Free Trade Agreement (CFTA) and the Internal Trade Secretariat’s website.

For information related to international trade, please see the Government of Canada’s Trade and Investment Agreements website.
