The Corporate Records Information Management Standard (CRIMS) is a Disposition Authority approved by the Government Records Committee. It is a standard classification plan, and records retention and disposal schedule used for the management of corporate records of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador (GNL).
Corporate Records, often referred to as administrative records, are those created by all organizations to support administrative functions, including human resources, general administration, facilities management, financial management, information and information technology management, and equipment and supplies (material) management. Because the value of these records is consistent across Government Departments, CRIMS has been developed by the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) as a standard for their management. CRIMS replaces the Information Management System for Administrative Records (IMSAR).
GNL has seen an increase in the ways and means of creating, managing, storing and disposing of records in a hybrid environment in which both physical and electronic records are used. Today, records are primarily electronic, but the remanence of physical records continues to exist. CRIMS can be used to assist in the management of these physical and/or electronic records.
A memo to the Government Records Committee (GRC) is required from the Deputy Minister, Assistant Deputy Minister or equivalent outlining the organization’s intention to implement CRIMS. The following memo template must be used when requesting authorization from the GRC:
