Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership

The Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP) is a five-year (2023-2028), $3.5-billion initiative that aims to strengthen the competitiveness, innovation, and resiliency of Canada’s agriculture, agri‐food and agri‐based products sector. Provincial Vegetable Transplant Program

The Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture offers high-quality, low-cost vegetable transplants to eligible commercial farmers to help increase the production and variety of produce grown in the province, promote higher marketable yields and earlier harvests, and support food self-sufficiency.

Provincial Agrifoods Assistance Program 

Applications are open for 2024-25. The deadline to apply is April 26, 2024.

The Provincial Agrifoods Assistance Program supports current farmers and new entrants to the province’s agriculture and agrifoods sectors. The program has two streams, focusing on land development and agriculture infrastructure. Projects must support food self-sufficiency and increase agricultural growth and secondary processing.

Eligible applicants must have reported a minimum of $15,000 in eligible agriculture sales in one of the last three years or qualify as a new entrant. To encourage and support new farmers in the industry, new entrants can qualify for up to $20,000 in funding under the Agriculture Infrastructure program.

Community Garden Support Program/Programme de soutien des jardins communautaires

The Community Garden Support Program helps eligible municipalities, schools, not-for-profit organizations and community groups establish and enhance new and existing community gardens. Participants contribute to local food production and food self-sufficiency, so communities benefit from increased access to fresh, nutritious, locally grown food. The program provides up to a maximum of $750 per eligible applicant in the form of a non-repayable grant. There is no deadline to apply, but applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Limestone Program

Agricultural limestone improves soil productivity, plant efficiency and environmental sustainability. The Limestone Program offers eligible farmers access to limestone at a reduced rate. For program and application details, visit Limestone Program

Provincial Farm Equipment Leasing Program

The Provincial Farm Equipment Leasing Program supports the Provincial Government’s commitment to enhance the agricultural sector and increase food self-sufficiency in Newfoundland and Labrador. Access to government-owned equipment reduces the financial burden of overhead, maintenance, repair, and storage costs for established and new entrant farmers.
