Alternative Feeds Program

This program was implemented by the Agrifoods Branch to research and develop the local forage and grain industry and decrease the Province’s dependence on imported feedstuff.

The objectives of this program are to:

  • to investigate opportunities to diversify the industry into new crops, in particular new and non-traditional varieties of forages and vegetables;
  • to investigate opportunities to improve the economic viability of the province’s agricultural producers, through improvement of local forage thus reducing the need for outside feed protein and dry matter sources.
  • to investigate opportunities to improve the economic viability of Labrador’s agricultural producers, through improving soil fertility and crop production, thus reducing the need for imported forage and vegetable crops.

Information related to this Program can be found in the Alternative Feeds Program Reports.
