Food Safety & Quality

When a farmer produces food for consumers or a consumer buys food for their family, both are interested in the safety and quality of the product. A safe product does not pose a health threat to the consumer through bacterial contaminants or chemical residues. A quality product is one that meets the colour, taste, texture, smell and other attributes the consumer expects. This section describes the approaches taken to assuring food safety and quality from a legal and voluntary perspective, and from the perspectives of the producer, processor and consumer.
