Invertebrates are animals that lack a backbone or spine. More than 90 per cent of living organisms are invertebrates, which are more varied in form than animals with backbones (vertebrates).
Some terrestrial invertebrate forms include insects, spiders, crustaceans, round worms, molluscs, segmented worms, and flat worms.
Newfoundland and Labrador offers world-renowned examples of fossil invertebrates that precede the arrival of vertebrates by millions of years, such as those found at Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve.
