Through a network of three regional offices and 17 sub-field offices, there is participation in planning, developing and delivering the department’s programs, services and projects on a regional basis. These regions are:
- Eastern Region
- Western Region
- Northern Region
Responsibilities
The major functions and areas of responsibility include:
- Identifying regional fisheries and aquaculture development opportunities;
- Coordinating and implementing projects and programs;
- Enforcing the Fish Inspection Act and Regulations:
- Fish Inspection Administrative Regulations
- Fish Inspection Operations Regulations
- Fish Inspection Ticket Offences Regulations
- In-Province Retail Fish Establishment Regulations;
- Delivering the Quality Assurance Program;
- Managing the maintenance and repairs of fisheries infrastructure, including the delivery of the Special Assistance Grants Program;
- Liaising with the departments and agencies, both federal and provincial, to identify and address various fisheries issues at the regional and community level; and
- Participating in the development and dissemination of provincial fisheries policies.
