AN INTRODUCTION TO THE CO-OPERATIVE BUSINESS SECTOR IN NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR

Overview

As part of the Community Capacity Building program’s co-operative development training, this module provides a thorough introduction to co-operative development in the business sector. It focuses on initial development through to establishment of co-op in various industries. Interested parties are able to achieve a better understanding of legislation, business structure and management, and governance associated with developing a co-op.

The co-op model continues to make significant contributions to Newfoundland and Labrador’s economy each year. As a part of the process, this module demonstrates how co-op’s address social and economic challenges, while building local leadership skills, local autonomy and community control.

CREATING A CO-OPERATIVE ENTERPRISE IN NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR (NL): STEPS IN THE CO-OP DEVELOPMENT PROCESS

Overview

This second co-operative development module provides a general overview of the steps involved in planning, developing and incorporating a co-operative (co-op). Individuals and organizations considering the formation of a new co-op and others who are actively engaged in the development process will gain a better understanding of the whole process from conception to incorporation.

This workshop’s “hands on” approach provides opportunities for participants to actively engage on specific co-operative ideas, co-operative enterprise building, co-operative incorporation and business start-up that will ensure a successful start in the co-operative community.
