Newfoundland and Labrador is home to numerous onshore and offshore sedimentary basins with hydrocarbon potential. Approximately 10% of available land has been held under license/permits. The Province’s discovered reserves total over 4.3 billion barrels of oil and 12.6 trillion feet of natural gas. Geoscience data indicates a further 63 billion barrels of oil and 224 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in-place resource potential exists. Opportunities exist in proven and frontier areas for additional exploration and development as outlined below.
