Today, the Honourable Siobhan Coady, Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance, provided an update on the residential construction rebate program which was designed to help homeowners and the local construction industry.

Government has received approximately 12,000 applications of which approximately 9,000 have been pre-approved. Rebate payments have started for those who qualify and have had work completed. Approximately 1,000 rebate cheques have been processed to date.

The deadline for applications is now closed. However, applications that were received continue to be assessed and the deadline for construction has been extended to June 30, 2021.

Inquiries may be sent to residentialrebate@gov.nl.ca.

“The rebate program has certainly been very popular with homeowners. We’ve had many more applications than expected and we know that some homeowners are patiently waiting for their pre-approvals or rebate cheques. I want to reassure them that processing is continuing. Thank you to the Canadian Home Builders Association Newfoundland and Labrador for their help with administering the program, which has been great for the construction industry and homeowners who are doing renovations to their homes or building a new one.”
