As part of consultations on proposed changes to the Newfoundland and Labrador Coat of Arms, more than 200 individuals completed an online questionnaire which closed on September 17.
A summary report of the input received will be released in the coming weeks.
Newfoundland and Labrador has committed to amend the legal description of the Coat of Arms to add ‘Labrador” and to remove the word ‘savages’.
Quote
“Changing the wording in the provincial Coat of Arms Act is part of an ongoing review of cultural symbols, observances and monuments. Respect for the culture and heritage of Indigenous peoples must be reflected in our words and actions. This is an important step on the path to Reconciliation. I thank everyone who has shared their views through the questionnaire on the proposed changes to the provincial Coat of Arms.”
