Chef Team Announced for 2023 Canada Winter Games

The Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation, today announced the 2023 Canada Winter Games Team NL Chef Team.

Tom Godden has been appointed Chef de Mission for Team NL. Gary Martin and Jamie Randell have been appointed in Assistant Chef de Mission roles. Biographies for each team member are provided in the backgrounder below.

The 2023 Canada Winter Games are scheduled to take place in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island from February 18 – March 5, 2023.

The 2023 Canada Winter Games Team NL Mission Staff will be announced in the coming weeks.

Jamie Randell has also been appointed Assistant Chef de Mission for the 2022 Canada Summer Games, replacing Brenda Congram who withdrew for family reasons.

The 2022 Canada Summer Games are scheduled to take place in Niagara, Ontario from August 6 – 21, 2022.

The Canada Games is the country’s largest amateur multi-sport event and is held every two years, alternating between summer and winter.

BACKGROUNDER

Biographies for the 2023 Canada Winter Games Team NL Chef Team

Tom Godden
Tom Godden has extensive Canada Games experience with Team NL. He was Assistant Chef de Mission in 1993, 1995, 1997, and 2022. In 2017 and 2019, he was a member of Team NL’s Mission Staff. He has an extensive coaching background in gymnastics, including Head Coach of the gymnastics team at the 1983 Canada Winter Games. Tom is Chair of the Board of Directors for the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Centre. He is a former President, Vice-President and Board Member with Sport NL, and he is a facilitator with the National Coaching Certification Program.

Gary Martin
Gary Martin has over 30 years of experience in the sporting community through coaching, officiating, and volunteering. In 2022, he is Team NL Chef de Mission for the Canada Summer Games and he was Assistant Chef de Mission with Team NL in 2019. He was a member of Team NL’s Mission Staff in 2005, 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017. He was also Head Coach of the women’s hockey team at the 1999 Canada Winter Games. Gary is also a member of the Board of Directors for Sport NL.

Jamie Randell
Jamie Randell has over 20 years of experience in the sporting community through coaching and volunteering. She was a member of Team NL’s Mission Staff at the Canada Games in 2009, 2011, 2013, and 2017. She was an athlete at the 1995 Canada Winter Games and was Assistant Coach with the women’s hockey team at the 1999 Canada Winter Games.
