The Provincial Government is recognizing February 12-16 as Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week was created by the Canadian Home and School Federation in 1988. It recognizes the work of teachers, administrators and school staff who are committed to supporting the educational experience of children and youth.

Newfoundland and Labrador is home to more than 10,500 permanent and casual school staff working as teachers, administrators and support staff throughout the province’s school system. This year, the Provincial Government welcomed some school staff as new members of the public service through the integration of the former English School District into government.

In January the Department of Education announced Education Accord NL, which is dedicated to supporting a modern educational experience for all students in Newfoundland and Labrador. The Accord will reimagine the education system to ensure students and learners at all levels receive the educational services they need in the classroom, are prepared for the modern global economy, and develop strong decision-making skills to foster positive health and well-being.
