The Honourable Chris Tibbs, Minister of Environment, Conservation and Climate Change, has announced the following relative to Environmental Assessment – Part 10 – of the Environmental Protection Act.

Undertaking Registered:
Isle aux Morts River Exploration Drilling                                            (Reg. 2409)
Proponent: AuMEGA Metals Ltd.

The proponent is proposing to conduct exploration drilling adjacent to the Isle aux Morts River located northwest of the town of Isle aux Morts. The proposed work would include a maximum of 20 drilling locations within 200 metres of the river. No drill sites would be situated within 50 metres of the highwater mark. Drilling activities would occur intermittently, year-round, with each drill hole expected to take two to four days to complete. Access to the drill sites would be by helicopter or via existing access trails, thereby avoiding the need to ford the river. The deadline for public comment is June 19, 2026, and the minister’s decision is due by June 28, 2026.

Environmental Impact Statement Submitted:
Botwood and Area EVREC Green Energy Project                            (Reg. 2327)
Proponent: Exploits Valley Renewable Energy Corporation (EVREC)  

The proponent is proposing to construct and operate a 3.5 gigawatt (GW) onshore wind energy project consisting of three wind farms with up to 530 turbines in the Central Newfoundland area, and a 150-megawatt solar farm and a 2.6 GW hydrogen/ammonia production facility in Botwood. The Minister of Environment, Conservation and Climate Change is seeking public comments on the environmental impact statement (EIS), a document that describes the project and provides an overview of the potential environmental effects of all phases of the project. To facilitate public participation, the EIS is available on the Department of Environment, Conservation and Climate Change website at: https://www.gov.nl.ca/eccc/projects/project-2327/.
Printed copies of the full EIS will be placed in Botwood and Grand Falls-Windsor public libraries.

Proponent: NordSpace Atlantic Corporation

On May 14, 2026, the minister advised the proponent that the Waste Management Plan for the project is acceptable. The Waste Management Plan was required by a condition of release from environmental assessment and is available on the Department of Environment, Conservation and Climate Change website at: https://www.gov.nl.ca/eccc/projects/project-2375/.

Terra Nova J-1 Quarry                                                                              (Reg. 2313)
Proponent: J-1 Contracting Ltd.

On May 11, 2026, the minister advised the proponent that the Water Resources Management Plan for the project is acceptable. The Water Resources Management Plan was required by a condition of release from environmental assessment and is available on the Department of Environment, Conservation and Climate Change website at: https://www.gov.nl.ca/eccc/projects/project-2313/.

Term of Decision Expired:
Doyles Quarry Extension                                                                       (Reg. 2025)
Proponent: Jeremy’s Construction Limited

The term of the minister’s decision to release the project has expired. The project must be registered again for environmental assessment to proceed.
