Newfoundland and Labrador’s seafood industry is recognized worldwide for its quality seafood products. In 2025, the combined market value of Newfoundland and Labrador’s wild fishery and aquaculture industries reached $2.11 billion. Shellfish and groundfish continue to drive the provincial economy and support many livelihoods and communities throughout the province.

This year, the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture has released the Seafood Industry Year in Review 2025 through a new interactive webpage. The webpage highlights wild fisheries and aquaculture industry performance data for Newfoundland and Labrador. This year’s review includes employment information, exports, production, landed volumes and the value of wild fisheries and aquaculture. In 2025, the market value of the wild fisheries industry was $1.66 billion, and the aquaculture industry was valued at $453 million. These industries employ approximately 17,000 Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, including registered fish harvesters and plant workers, throughout more than 400 communities.

Expanding the global reach of Newfoundland and Labrador’s seafood products is key to long-term growth and sustainability. Budget 2026 included $4.75 million over two years for continued investment in the seafood sector to support value-added products, market development and sector growth.
