Are there extra precautions that a pregnant woman should take during this time? In particular, one that works in a public setting.

Pregnant women should follow the same Public Health advice as the general public to avoid infection.

Health care workers who are pregnant do not need to be restricted from providing care to patients who are under investigation for COVID-19, or who are a presumptive or confirmed case of COVID-19, as long as they are able to:

  • demonstrate proper use and fit of personal protective equipment, including donning and doffing procedures; and
  • competently adhere to infection prevention and control recommendations for COVID-19.

Due to weight gain during pregnancy, previously completed N95 respirator fit testing may no longer be valid. It is recommended that pregnant health care workers not be present for aerosol-generating medical procedures. Where possible and/or practical, pregnant health care workers should be allocated to the care of other patients.
