Cartwright Junction Transportation Depot

Proponent: Dept. of Transportation and Works

Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The Department of Transportation and Works, Highway Design and Construction Division is proposing to construct a highway transportation depot immediately south of the Cartwright Junction Intersection, which is part of the phase two and phase three routes of the Trans Labrador Highway. The site will be used primarily in the winter months for snow clearing operations between the Towns of Cartwright and Charlottetown. When phase three of the Trans Labrador Highway is complete in the fall of 2009, snow clearing from the Cartwright Junction Depot will include approximately 70 kilometres towards Happy Valley/Goose Bay. The project is scheduled to be constructed and operational by winter, 2008. The depot will consist of an equipment garage to house several snow plow trucks, a front end loader and a residence to accommodate three to four equipment operators. Some minor equipment maintenance will be undertaken at the garage.
