Summary of Environmental Assessment Process:

Project Description:

Project Description: The Department of National Defence proposes to authorize Supersonic Flight Training at 5 Wing Goose Bay, Labrador. The authorization of supersonic flight training is a means to further enhance the allied training opportunities in the Goose Bay area. This proposal involves the Labrador portion of Goose Bay Air Range CYA-732 from an altitude of 28,000 feet to 5000 feet and is located generally northwest of Happy Valley-Goose Bay and north of Churchill Falls to the Labrador-Quebec border. The number of supersonic flights in Goose Bay annually is projected to be 1250 sorties during the flight training season between April to October and would typically include fighter jet aircraft such as the CF-18. The Canadian Forces intends to authorize supersonic flight training as soon as the environmental assessment process is completed.
