Project Description:

The proponent proposes to undertake a number of required modifications and rehabilitation works at the existing hydroelectric generating facility at Grand Falls-Windsor. The facility includes a main dam that extends across the Exploits River; power canal and penstocks; electrical generating units; fish bypass systems; as well as nearby transformers and terminal stations. Works to be completed include rehabilitation of the existing concrete dam structure to refurbish deteriorating concrete; replacement of the existing temporary flashboard system at the top of the dam; construction of a single lane vehicle bridge across the existing power canal; and construction of a pedestrian bridge over sections of the dam works to provide additional, safe access to the dam structure for construction and maintenance activities.  The proposed project is planned in various phases over a three year period.

  • July 7, 2016 – Deadline for public comments.
  • July 14, 2016 – The Minister’s Decision is due.
  • July 28, 2016 – The Minister’s Decision is due (extended).
  • September 22, 2016 – The project is released from further environmental assessment.
