Project Description:

The proponent is proposing to develop a naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) contaminated equipment storage and decontamination facility at their existing location at 267 Incinerator Road. There will be no treatment or disposal of NORM waste at the proposed facility. The material will be shipped to an approved facility located in Western Canada.

Construction would include installing fencing, underground storage tank, sump and pad for the decontamination chamber, and a concrete pad for the storage vault. The storage vault and decontamination chamber would be developed using a steel container. Construction is estimated to take three months

  • August 18, 2021 – The undertaking was registered.
  • September 23, 2021 – Deadline for public comments.
  • October 2, 2021 – The Minister’s decision is due.
  • October 22, 2021 – The Minister’s decision is due (extended).
  • October 13, 2021 – Environmental Preview Report (EPR) required.
  • October 13, 2021 – Environmental Assessment Committee (EAC) appointed.
  • December 12, 2021 – EPR Guidelines due to be issued.
  • November 24, 2021 – EPR Guidelines issued.
  • May 27, 2022 – Project withdrawn.
  • June 3, 2022 – Withdrawal rescinded.
