Project Description:
The proponent is proposing to develop a waste to energy plant in Lewisporte that would convert biomass and plastic waste into renewable energy and ultra-low sulfur liquid and gas hydrocarbon fuels. The facility would be comprised of a gasification waste to energy combined heat and power (CHP) plant, and a hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) plant. The undertaking would include construction of the CHP and HTL plants, water treatment facility, sorting facility, tank farm, bulk cargo port and fuel jetty.
- January 10, 2022 – The undertaking was registered.
- February 16, 2022 – Deadline for public comments.
- February 24, 2022 – The Minister’s decision is due.
- February 9, 2022 – The Minister announced that the project not to proceed.
