Project Description:
The proponent is proposing to construct and operate a renewable energy storage and generation facility in the Bay St. George area of western Newfoundland. Proposed key project components include: a main facility with salt caverns, salt production, compressed air energy storage and associated infrastructure; marine components and pipelines to transport seawater from St. George’s Bay for use in the solution mining process and potentially for saltwater disposal; a wind farm and associated infrastructure; and a transmission line connecting the facility to the provincial electricity system at the Bottom Brook terminal station. Construction is planned to begin in 2028, the facility would be fully operational by 2031, and operations would run for 50 years or more.
