The Southern Buchans–Roberts Arm Belt, Central Newfoundland – Volcanogenic Massive Sulphide Mineralization and Related Alteration

Summary

The southern Buchans–Roberts Arm Belt (BRAB) has been the focus of considerable mineral exploration activities over the last one hundred years related to the VMS deposit at Buchans. The present application of short wavelength infrared (SWIR) spectrometry through the collection of systematic downhole measurements from drillcore allows for the detailed evaluation of the individual zones of hydrothermal alteration. This report primarily focuses on the area extending from the Buchans camp eastward to Mary March Brook, with only limited investigations of the Lucky Strike and Rothermere deposits in the immediate Buchans area for comparison purposes. During the study, a significant amount of original data was compiled from mineral assessment files.
