All employees are entitled to leave with pay for jury duty and work-related court appearances. |

2.0 Application
| 2.1 |
This policy applies to all employees of Government departments. |
| 2.2 |
Bargaining unit employees should also consult their respective collective agreements and the provisions of the collective agreement shall prevail. |

3.0 Definitions
| Court Duty |
When employees are required to attend court or a proceeding as a witness by any court, agency, committee or body of persons who are authorized by law to compel the attendance of witnesses, in matters related to their work for the Employer or arising from their employment. |
| Jury Duty |
When employees are summoned for jury service or serve as jurors. |

4.0 Responsibilities
| 4.1 |
Employee
It is the responsibility of employees to notify their supervisors of their absence from the workplace when they are summoned to appear before a court to serve as a juror. |
| 4.2 |
Department
It is the responsibility of individual departments to ensure that employees who perform either jury or court duty receive wages and benefits as if they had not been summoned or required to attend court or an inquiry. |

5.0 Provision of Leave with Pay
| 5.1 |
Leave with pay will be provided to employees who are requested by the court to appear as a potential juror or to serve as a juror. |
| 5.2 |
Leave with pay will be provided to employees who are subpoenaed or summoned as a witness, in matters related to their employment, in any proceeding held:
- in or under authority of a court of justice;
- before a court, judge or justice;
- before the House of Assembly or any committee of the House that is authorized by law to compel the attendance of witnesses before it; or
- before an arbitrator or a person or body of persons authorized by law to make an enquiry and to compel the attendance of witnesses before it.
