Eligibility for Internal Competitions

Employees of the following organizations are eligible to apply for internal competitions:

Contractual employees are eligible to participate in internal competitions while the contract is in-force, until the date of termination, or expiry of the contract. Eligibility for internal competitions is discontinued upon termination or expiry of contract, unless, prior to accepting the contract, the employee had a pre-existing, uninterrupted employment relationship with the GNL public service. In this case, the contractual employee is granted eligibility for internal competitions for a period of two (2) years following termination or expiry of the contract.

Individuals on “lay-off” status from the public service retain eligibility to participate in internal competitions for a period of two (2) years from the date of lay-off.

Applicants who sever their employment relationship with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador are immediately ineligible to participate in internal competitions. This includes ongoing internal competitions for which an application has already been submitted.

Employees of external vendors providing contract services to Government, political support staff, and students in student positions for a specific term are ineligible to participate in internal competitions.
