Grants to Youth Organizations 2023-2024

Grants to Youth Organizations provides special project funding to not-for-profit youth-serving organizations operating in Newfoundland and Labrador. The goal of Grants to Youth Organizations is to help youth-serving organizations create opportunities for inspiration, mentorship, and social inclusion for youth in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The deadline for 2023-24 applications is Monday, June 12, 2023.

Evaluation Guidelines

1. Projects are evaluated based on how well they meet the following five criteria:

1.1. Encourage skills, knowledge and/or leadership development;
1.2. Support youth to contribute to their community, region and/or province;
1.3. Promote or support partnerships, collaboration, and inclusion;
1.4. Fill a gap in services; and
1.5. Provide opportunities for innovative intergenerational activities that help build relationships between generations.

2. Applications are assessed by an internal cross-departmental selection committee that will also consider:

2.1. The number of youth served;
2.2. Innovation of the proposal;
2.3. Alignment with regional needs; and
2.4. Alignment with government’s strategic objectives.

3. In an effort align with government’s strategic objectives, special consideration will be given to projects that:

3.1. Serve youth who are traditionally marginalized;
3.2. Educate youth on the risks and harms of sexual exploitation and gender-based violence; and/or
3.3. Focus on physical activity and mental health.

4. The following are not eligible for the Grants to Youth Organizations Program:

4.1. Projects whose primary purpose is to fund travel.
4.2. Projects led by individuals or businesses.

5. The following expenses are not eligible:

5.1. Administrative costs unrelated to the specific project.
5.2. Payroll unrelated to the specific project.
5.3. Utilities.
5.4. Rent.
5.5. Honoraria.

6. Applications must be submitted on or before the deadline. Incomplete applications will be disqualified. This means all sections must be completed, including the budget section.

Grant Amounts

$451,500 is available in grant funding. The maximum amount any one organization can receive is $50,000.

• If you do not receive e-mail confirmation within two business days that your application has been received, please call (709) 729-4349.

• Disbursement of Grants to Youth Organizations funds in any given year is application-based, and dependent on the number, variety, and quality of applications received.

• An organization that was successful in receiving funding for one year may not necessarily be successful in receiving the same level of funding, or any funding, in future years, even if the project is the same or similar.

• Organizations that have previously received funding are not eligible to be considered for funding in 2023-2024 until final reports for the previous project have been submitted to the satisfaction of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. Reports can be submitted to CSSDGrantPrograms@gov.nl.ca

• Successful applicants will be notified via email and will be required to sign and return a standard contract outlining specific reporting and other requirements. All payments will be electronic.

• Unsuccessful applicants will also be notified by email to the address provided on the application.

• Due to the volume of applications received, and complex nature of evaluations, the Department will endeavor to communicate final decisions by mid-summer, 2023.
