Description and Primary Use
Evaluation of crystals in synovial fluid can aid in diagnosis of crystal induced diseases of the joint, including gout and pseudogout. Identification of the most clinically significant crystals, MSU (monosodium urates) and CPPD (calcium pyrophosphate) can reliably be made with the use of polarizing microscope and a first order red compensator.
