- Description and Primary Use
- Calcium is under tight control by a complex regulatory system that includes vitamin D and parathyroid hormone. Excessive excretion of calcium in urine is a common contributor to kidney stone formation, so its measurement may be helpful in assessing stone risk. Measurement of urine calcium excretion may also aid in evaluation of bone diseases, including osteoporosis and osteomalacia.

If urine samples are cloudy or turbid, centrifuge before use.
- Special Collection / Transport / Processing Requirements
Timed urine specimens: Refrigerate collection container during the collection. 24hr urine sample must be acidified with 25mL of 6N HCI (0.1 ml to 10ml of urine). Store at +2°C to +8°C upon delivery to the lab.
