- Chloride is the major extracellular anion. The majority of ingested chloride is absorbed, and the excess exreted along with other ions into the urine. Low levels of chloride are observed in the case of prolonged vomitting accompanied by the loss of hydrochloric acid (HCI).

24 hour urine collection. If urine samples are cloudy or turbid, centrifuge before use.

Timed urine specimens: Refrigerate collection container during the collection. No preservative is required. Store at +2°C to +8°C upon delivery to the lab.
