- Hemoglobin Electrophoresis is used to detect hemoglobinopathies in patients. Hemoglobinopathies are genetically acquired diseases. When these abnormalities are detected early they can be treated. If left untreated, some hemoglobinopathies can be life threatening.

Collect 2 full EDTA tubes. Refrigerate immediately. Transport whole blood to Renal Lab HSC ASAP. Sample stable for 7 days at 2-8 degrees C. Test performed at Renal Lab, HSC once weekly on Thursdays
