Description and Primary Use
Urinary phosphate excretion should be interpreted in conjunction with serum phosphate levels for evaluation of hypophosphatemia and hyperphosphatemia. Phosphate in urine can contribute to calcium stone formation.

Special Patient Preparation

24 hour urine collection.

Special Collection / Transport / Processing Requirements

Timed urine specimens: Refrigerate collection container during the collection.  24hr urine sample must be acidified with 25mL of 6N HCI (0.1 ml to 10ml of urine).  Store at +2°C to +8°C upon delivery to the lab.
