Department of Finance (Government of Newfoundland and Labrador) Provincial Long Term Occupational Forecast: 

Occupation Projections for Newfoundland and Labrador are produced periodically by the Economics Division of the Department of Finance. The current projections were released in June 2023.

The projections provide estimates of demand for workers, attrition and job openings by 186 detailed occupational groups in Newfoundland and Labrador from 2023 to 2032. Ratings are also provided indicating the occupation’s job prospects over the period and are using the new NOC 2021 version.

Job Bank – Short Term Occupational Forecast, Indicators, and Reports for Newfoundland and Labrador:

Each year, ESDC/Service Canada undertakes analysis on occupational job prospects and wages across all regions of Canada. This exploration of the Canadian labour market serves to support Canadians in making informed decisions on education, training and employment opportunities.

  • Employment outlooks for a wide variety of occupations in Newfoundland and Labrador currently cover the three-year period 2023-2025.
  • Wage data for these occupations come from different sources and reference periods (depending on the occupation).

This archived report examines the occupational employment trends in Newfoundland and Labrador which arose as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. This additional report focuses on those occupations that were most impacted across various segments of the economy and may provide some insight into potential trends in the immediate years ahead.

 

Provincial Post-Secondary Institutions

Memorial University of Newfoundland

As Newfoundland and Labrador’s only university, Memorial offers programs to more than 19,000 students from over 115 countries. The University currently includes a campus in St. John’s, a campus in Corner Brook (Grenfell), a campus in England (Harlow), and a new campus on Signal Hill (as of September 2018). The University is also associated with several institutions devoted to areas of particular specialization, including the Marine Institute (St. John’s), the Centre for Nursing Studies (St. John’s), and the Western Regional School of Nursing (Corner Brook).

College of the North Atlantic

The College of the North Atlantic is Newfoundland and Labrador’s public college and one of the largest post-secondary education and training centres in Atlantic Canada. Currently, there are 17 campuses throughout the province. Each year, the College offers over 100 full-time program offerings, in categories such as: health care; engineering and related technologies; social science and community studies; trades; business; information technology; nutrition; hospitality; travel and tourism; and creative arts, culture and communications.

Private Training Institutions

Currently, there are 22 private training institutions throughout the province, offering a wide range of programs to the public (including trades, health care, information technology, business, and other career areas such as cosmetology, esthetics, community studies, legal and protective services, and aviation).
