Accessible Parking Permit

Accessible parking permit holders can park in zones marked with a blue international wheelchair logo. You may request either a temporary (valid for six months) or permanent (valid for five  years) Accessible Parking Permit.

To Apply: A doctor or nurse practitioner must fill out the Accessible Parking Permit Application the first time you apply. You can also get a paper application at any Motor Registration office in the province.

Applications are processed in 5-10 business days.  Processing times may change depending on the volume of requests.

Permits are sent by mail, or they can be held for pick-up at a Motor Registration Office (upon request).

Renewing your permit:

Permanent Accessible Parking Permit: (There is no need to re-visit your doctor/nurse practitioner)

  • an application for renewal can be submitted electronically using the contact us tool.

Steps:

  • “I need help with: Accessible Parking Permit”
  • “Reason: I want to renew my accessible parking permit”
  • fill out the required fields
  • “Submit” application

You will receive a copy of your application in your email.

Paper applications are also accepted in person, by mail or drop box at our Corner Brook, Grand Falls Windsor and Mount Pearl Locations.

Temporary Accessible Parking Permits are not eligible for renewal. A new application must be completed.

Notes for the Permit Holder:

  • Only one permit issued per person
  • You are not required to have a driver’s licence or a vehicle to get a permit
  • There is no fee for the permit
  • The permit can be used in any vehicle where the permit holder is a passenger, but it is not transferable and cannot be loaned to anyone for use
  • It is illegal to use a permit not issued to you
  • The permit can be laminated
  • The permit must be displayed in the windshield of a vehicle occupying a accessible parking space where permit number and expiry date are visible
  • The permit can be valid from six months to five years as determined by the Registrar
  • The permit should be returned when it is no longer required by the holder or if the permit holder is asked to return
  • If you hold a valid driver’s licence, the information on your application may be forwarded to the medical section for a review of your ability to drive safely
  • More medical information may be requested to make a decision on your application.
