Commercial Inspections

Public Passenger Bus

  • Public Passenger Buses must be inspected every March and September, commencing 6 months from the date of manufacture.
  • A valid inspection sticker must be displayed upon the vehicle to prove compliance.
  • A copy of the inspection must be filed with MRD. Failure to file inspection may result in the cancellation/suspension of the vehicle registration.
  • An inspection is not required for the transfer of ownership following a sale.
  • To view the current inspection criteria: Buses with a passenger carrying capacity of 10 passengers or more

School Bus

  • School Buses must be inspected every July and December, commencing 6 months from the date of manufacture.
  • A valid inspection sticker must be displayed upon the vehicle to prove compliance.
  • A copy of the inspection must be filed with MRD. Failure to file inspection may result in the cancellation/suspension of the vehicle registration.
  • An inspection is not required for the transfer of ownership following a sale.

Taxi

  • Taxis must be inspected when the vehicle is 1 model year old (12 months from the date of manufacture) and each year thereafter.
  • The inspection is valid for a 12 month period and a valid inspection sticker must be displayed upon the vehicle.
  • A copy of the inspection must be filed at MRD and a copy must be kept in the vehicle.
  • An inspection is not required for transfer of ownership following a sale as long as an inspection has been completed within the previous 12 months. To view the current inspection criteria: Cars Light Trucks and Vans

Ambulance

  • Ambulances are required to be inspected at least once every 6 months, at intervals of not less than 150 days apart commencing 6 months from the date of manufacture.
  • A valid inspection sticker must be displayed upon the vehicle to prove compliance.
  • A copy of the inspection must be filed at MRD. Failure to file inspection may result in the cancellation/suspension of the vehicle registration.
  • An ambulance with a GVWR of 4500kg or less must be inspected in accordance with the requirements for Cars Light Trucks and Vans
  • An ambulance with a GVWR greater than 4500kg must be inspected in accordance with the requirements for Trucks with a GVWR > 4500kg

Commercial Vehicle (GVWR over 4500kg)

  • Commercial vehicles are required to be inspected when the vehicle is 1 model year old (12 months from the date of manufacture) and each year thereafter.
  • The inspection is valid for a 12 month period and a valid inspection sticker must be displayed upon the vehicle to prove compliance.
  • A copy of the inspection DOES NOT have to be filed at MRD, but must be kept in the vehicle and an inspection IS NOT required for transfer of ownership following a sale.

Commercial Trailer (GVWR over 4500kg)

  • Commercial trailers (including fifth wheels) are required to be inspected when the vehicle is 1 model year old (12 months from the date of manufacture) and each year thereafter.
  • The inspection is valid for a 12 month period and a valid inspection sticker must be displayed upon the vehicle to prove compliance.
  • A copy of the inspection DOES NOT have to be filed at MRD, but must be kept in the vehicle and an inspection IS NOT required for transfer of ownership following a sale.
  • To view the current inspection criteria Trailers with a GVWR > 4500kg or fifth wheel trailers (Not including recreational trailers)
