Taxi drivers have additional requirements.
Vehicle Requirements:
The vehicle used for the road test must match the class of licence you are being tested for.
Class 01 – Semi-trailer and Tractor Trailer combination:
- Minimum 48 ft trailer, trailer unloaded.
- If the vehicle is air brake equipped, the driver must have an air brake endorsement.
- Can be tested in an automatic vehicle but will have a defined restriction added for the class of licence that indicates “Automatic Only”.
Class 02 – Buses having a seating of more than 24 passengers:
- Any bus with a seating capacity of less than 48 passengers but more than 24 passengers will have a defined restriction added for the class of licence that indicates the maximum number of passengers that can be carried.
- If the vehicle is air brake equipped, the driver must have an air brake endorsement.
Class 03 – Tandem axle trucks:
- Vehicle unloaded
- If the vehicle is air brake equipped, the driver must have an air brake endorsement.
- Can be tested in an automatic vehicle but will have a defined restriction added for the class of licence that indicates “Automatic Only”.
Class 04 – Taxis, Ambulance, Emergency vehicles and Buses equal to or less than 24 passengers:
- Class 04 is subdivided between Taxis and Ambulance, Emergency Vehicles and Buses equal to or less than 24 passengers
- Taxi – any private passenger vehicle – drivers tested for a Class 04 Taxi licence will have a defined restriction added for the class of licence that indicates “Valid for Taxi only”.
- Ambulance, Emergency vehicle, buses equal to or less than 24 passengers can be used for testing or can be substituted with a Box type cargo van. Will have a defined restriction added for the class of licence “Not valid for Taxi”.
What to expect:
- During a Commercial class road test, all drivers will be evaluated and scored on the ability to complete a pre-trip inspection and backing.
- All Commercial Drivers must successfully complete a 90 degree angle reverse park into a loading bay prior to the on-road evaluation, each driver will be given two attempts at this maneuver.
- Class 01 drivers must complete an uncoupling and coupling of their trailer test prior to the on-road evaluation.
