Obtaining and Maintaining a Class 4, Taxi Licence
Before becoming eligible for a Class 4 (taxi only) licence, you must:
- hold a full Class 5 driver’s licence for at least twelve months;
- have a driver record clear of stunting, racing, excessive speeding, impaired driving, driving while disqualified, or driving without due care and attention;
- have not accumulated more than 8 demerit points;
- must meet the medical standards to obtain a commercial class licence; and
- submit an application.
Application:
- Have a doctor/nurse practitioner complete the routine medical form to make sure you meet medical standards

Applications can be submitted:
- by booking an appointment,
- online,
- by fax to 709-729-1843, or
- by mail or drop box to any Motor Registration Office
You will receive a temporary permit at the appointment and the card will arrive by mail.
Applications are processed in 5-10 business days. Processing times may change depending on the volume of requests.
Registering a Taxi
- To register new vehicles to their fleet operators can email the documents to Fleet Vehicles. The staff are processing those transactions within 2 business days and will arrange for the pick-up/exchange of the plates at any office location.
