Taxi Drivers and Vehicles

Obtaining and Maintaining a Class 4, Taxi Licence

Before becoming eligible for a Class 4 (taxi only) licence, you must:

  1. hold a full Class 5 driver’s licence for at least twelve months;
  2. have a driver record clear of stunting, racing, excessive speeding, impaired driving, driving while disqualified, or driving without due care and attention;
  3. have not accumulated more than 8 demerit points;
  4. must meet the medical standards to obtain a commercial class licence; and
  5. submit an application.

Application:

  1. Have a doctor/nurse practitioner complete the routine medical form to make sure you meet medical standards

You will receive a temporary permit at the appointment and the card will arrive by mail.

Applications are processed in 5-10 business days.  Processing times may change depending on the volume of requests.

Registering a Taxi

  • To register new vehicles to their fleet operators can email the documents to Fleet Vehicles. The staff are processing those transactions within 2 business days and will arrange for the pick-up/exchange of the plates at any office location.
  • Renew your taxi registration online.
