Vehicle Registration Suspensions

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How will I be notified if my vehicle registration has been suspended?

Vehicle owners will be notified by:

  • Email, where the registered owner has a MyGov Account linked with their Driver’s Licence or Photo Identification Number.
  • Mail, for all suspensions including those who received an email and those who did not.

2. Why am I receiving this suspension notification?

A warning notification would have been issued to you to say we cannot verify your insurance.

At this time, we still cannot verify your policy through the electronic system. Please obtain an insurance policy or return your plate to any MRD location.

3. Is this a scam/junk email?

MRD issues email notifications as a result of our insurance validation process.

4. I have insurance and I have already notified MRD, why am I receiving this notification?

At this time, we still cannot verify your policy through the electronic system. Please contact your insurer and submit a confirmation letter from your insurance provider here.

5. My vehicle is only used seasonally (summer), I have fire and theft on it currently. Doesn’t this count as having an insurance policy?

Public Passenger Liability is required to operate a vehicle on a highway and maintain a valid vehicle registration. For the purposes of Insurance a seasonal vehicle is considered one that is driven on a highway between April 1st and Sept 30th annually. If you choose to not maintain public passenger liability between these months, you can return you plate to be held at any MRD location until you choose to insure the vehicle. This service is free of charge.

6. I operate this vehicle only in the winter months (ie. plow) and I do not maintain public passenger liability on my vehicle all year.
