  • Our priority is to ensure the health and safety of our employees and our clients.
  • The Provincial Government will continue to monitor and where necessary implement protocols required to contain the virus. For the most up-to-date information related to confirmed cases of COVID-19, please visit www.gov.nl.ca/covid-19.

Employee Assistance and Respectful Workplace Programs

The Public Service Commission continues to support employees through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), providing professional and confidential counseling services to employees and their immediate family members during the Covid-19 pandemic. We will help employees identify their needs and concerns and provide short-term therapeutic interventions. The EAP Coordinators are also able to assist in linking employees with community-based online services, and/or initiate referral to an appropriate counselor for further professional assistance if needed. Our roster of counselors have adapted their practices to reflect the current social distancing requirements in place, offering services via telephone, online/video, and email interventions.

The EAP intake telephone lines are monitored regularly from Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. Please contact 729-2290 (local) or 1-888-729-2290 (toll-free) to leave a message with your contact information and we will respond within one business day.

Please see below for additional resources:

Classification Appeals

The deadlines for both the Job Evaluation System (JES) and Management Classification Appeals, and any responses related to an appeal, will be extended due to the public health emergency. The period of time covered by the public health emergency will not count in the determination of a deadline.

If you wish to confirm your deadline at the conclusion of the public health emergency, please contact classificationappeals@gov.nl.ca.

Merit-Based Appointment Process for Provincial Agencies Boards and Commissions

The Independent Appointments Commission (IAC) and the Public Service Commission (PSC) continue to consult with Departments and host entities regarding current and future vacancies on provincial Agencies, Boards and Commissions (ABCs). During this time, recommendations will be processed on a priority basis. We encourage you to continue to explore the website to learn more about the IAC, the ABCs, the merit-based appointments process, and, most importantly, the opportunities for you to play an active role in your province.

For further information or inquiries for the IAC or PSC, please email contact@iacnl.ca or contactpsc@gov.nl.ca.

Staffing Oversight

The Public Service Commission continues to provide oversight services for merit-based appointments and promotions within the public service of Newfoundland and Labrador. Consultation with our delegated staffing authorities regarding essential staffing actions is ongoing. During this time, staffing actions will be conducted on a priority basis, as needed, which may result in a delay.
