Information Management and Protection Policy

The Information Management and Protection (IM&P) Policy approved by Treasury Board provides authority for the OCIO to establish mandatory IM&P directives, standards and procedures for the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador’s departments and other public bodies as defined in the  Management of Information Act (MOIA).

The IM&P Policy establishes the overall framework for IM&P within government in accordance with the MOIA (specifically Section 6), the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, 2015 (ATIPPA, 2015), the Rooms Act and forms the basis for departments and other public bodies to develop organization-specific policies, directives, standards, guidelines and procedures.

This policy framework also:

  • applies to the management and protection of all records (as defined in the MOIA) of Government, regardless of physical format or characteristics;
  • applies to all staff, contractors, consultants, partners, students, temporary workers, volunteers, vendors, agents, third parties and other persons working on behalf of the Government who receive, create or manage and protect information; and
  • supports Government’s IM&P Vision of a professional IM&P capability aligned to enable the business of Government, facilitate legislative and policy compliance, appropriately protect the information of Government and citizens and support services to citizens.
