The Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development is committed to providing services to clients in accordance with defined service standards. The Department is implementing service standards incrementally, in accordance with broader departmental initiatives, and will update this website with additional information in the future.

Provincial Inquiries

Description of Service Service Standard
The Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development has two Inquiries Coordinators who are responsible for addressing all inquiries from the public arising primarily from individuals or their representatives (Members of the House of Assembly, etc.) in receipt of CSSD programs and services who are not satisfied with the service or who need assistance in navigating the service delivery system. Individuals may contact Inquiries Coordinators via email, phone, or by mail. Contact information can be found here. The Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development will attempt to contact the inquirer within two (2) business days of receiving an inquiry through the provincial Inquiries Coordinators.

Foster a Future Campaign

Description of Service Service Standard
The Foster a Future Campaign was announced in 2012 to address the shortage of foster homes in the Province. The Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development has a Provincial Intake Coordinator who is responsible for responding to all individuals which express an interest in becoming a foster parent. Individuals may contact the coordinator via email (fosterafuture@gov.nl.ca), phone (1-855-683-8111), directly through the website (fosterafuture.ca), or by mail. The Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development will attempt to contact all prospective foster parents within two (2) business days of receiving a request for information through the Foster a Future campaign.

Income and Social Supports

Description of Service Service Standard
Income Support Program – Telephone Applications Upon receipt of an Income Support application, the department will notify the applicant of a decision within 30 Calendar Days. This standard is conditional upon the applicant providing the department with all necessary information in a timely manner.
