The Post-Secondary Education Branch is responsible for supporting the delivery of post-secondary education in the province through Memorial University, the College of the North Atlantic, and private training institutions. The Branch is also responsible for adult learning and literacy and the provision of financial assistance to post-secondary education students.
Responsibilities
The branch provides:
- oversight of the public and private post-secondary education in the province, including institutional and industrial education;
- support to the Council on Higher Education;
- policy development;
- student financial assistance;
- skills development;
- coordination of planning and advancement of adult literacy; and Adult Basic Education
Services
- administering provincial and inter-provincial Red Seal examinations
- curriculum development for apprenticeship training and Adult Basic Education
- regulation of private training institutions
- student financial assistance
- post-secondary data analysis, research and policy development; and,
- participation on provincial and pan-Canadian committees
