The Apprenticeship and Trades Certification Division (ATCD) is responsible for apprenticeship training and certification programs in Newfoundland and Labrador for individuals pursuing a career in a skilled trade. Apprenticeship is a formal training system that combines approximately 80 per cent of on-the-job training and 20 per cent of in-school training to produce qualified and certified journeypersons. In many cases, students alternate between the two, and earn money while they learn! Apprenticeship programs can be completed, on average, in four years.
