Protocol Office

The Protocol Office is responsible for:

  • advance planning, organizing, and support tasks related to official visits and ceremonial events, and for working co-operatively with other divisions/departments within Government and where required, with external agencies towards such events;
  • the planning, coordination, and administration of the provincial Honours, awards and recognition programs such as: The Newfoundland and Labrador Award for Bravery, The Volunteer War Service Medal, The Public Service Award of Excellence and the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador;
  • providing advisory services on protocol matters and social etiquette to clients, in such matters as official and diplomatic visits; the diplomatic and consular corps; the Canadian Crown; Precedence; forms of address; history, application and usage of Provincial Emblems, Symbols; Ceremonial Dress, and etiquette, as well as commemorative ceremonies, unveilings, and any public events with a protocol component.
