Heritage Animals

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has passed a statute, the Heritage Animals Act, to support and promote certain breeds or kinds of animals that have an attachment to the province’s history.

The only current Heritage Animal is the Newfoundland Pony.

In addition, under the Heritage Animals Act, the Newfoundland Pony Society has by Order been designated as the group which will maintain the registry of ponies and otherwise act for the preservation of the animal.
