Newfoundland and Labrador is blessed with a great variety of plants and animals that contribute to our biological diversity. Many species predate human occupation and have been part of our landscape for thousands of years; some species can be found nowhere else in the world.

The Wildlife Division’s Biodiversity Program is dedicated to maintaining the diversity of life on Newfoundland and Labrador’s natural landscape. We survey and monitor a diverse mix of wild species that make up our province’s natural heritage.
