1. How does a person lodge a formal complaint against the conduct of a Judge?

Provincial Court Judges

A Complaint against a provincial court judge must be made in writing to the Complaints Review Committee, Box 68, 215 Water Street, St. John’s, NL, A1C 6C9. Your written complaint should include:

  • your name and address;
  • the name of the judge you are making a complaint against; and
  • a description of the judge’s conduct that you believe was inappropriate.

Supreme Court Judges

A complaint against a supreme court judge must be made in writing to the Canadian Judicial Council, Ottawa, Ontario, K1A 0W8, or using the complaint form. Your written complaint should include:

  • your name and address;
  • the name of the judge you are making a complaint against; and
  • a description of the judge’s conduct that you believe was inappropriate.

2. How does a person lodge a formal complaint against an officer of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police?

A complaint can be made by completing the online complaint form, by telephone from anywhere in Canada or by completing the printable version of the complaint form in PDF and sending it via Fax or mail.

3. How does a person lodge a formal complaint against an officer of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary?

or any detachment of the RNC and request a Public Complaint Form. A complaint against an officer of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary must be made in writing. The form can then be sent to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Complaints Commission, at the address above. Forms can also be mailed out upon request. Complaint forms are also available by through the RNCPCC website. Telephone complaints cannot be acted upon; Legislation requires that all complaints received by the Commission must be on a prescribed form and signed by the complainant.
