Public Advisory: Cape St. Mary’s and Mistaken Point Ecological Reserves Opening for the Season

Visitor services at the Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve and UNESCO World Heritage Site and the Cape St. Mary’s Ecological Reserve will open for the season beginning Monday, May 10 and will remain open until October 15.

The number of visitors that can be accommodated is reduced due to public health guidelines during COVID-19.

The hours of operation for the visitor centre at Cape St. Mary’s are Monday to Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Extended hours begin in June. A public update will be provided at that time.

The Edge of Avalon Interpretation Centre in Portugal Cove South for the Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve will be open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Viewing of the fossils occurs through guided hikes which may be booked by email at mistakenpointtour@gov.nl.ca or by calling 709-438-1011.

As a reminder when you are planning your visit, for the safety and comfort of both wildlife and other visitors, pets are not permitted in the Cape St. Mary’s Ecological Reserve or on guided hikes at Mistaken Point. However, service dogs are permitted.
